Garage (Art) Sale Canceled

The Garage Art event for October 27th has been canceled. However, we'll still be having a yard sale and going-away party on this day, so please join us for those!

Garage Art will be hosting its last event for the forseeable future on October 27th—the last Saturday of the month—at 1413 Hinkson Ave. For those who aren't aware, Alison are both moving out of state. This final event will serve triple-duty—it will be an actual yard sale, a mini-Garage Art event, & a going-away party.

The idea is to have a true garage (art) sale, with work priced to move fast, so if you have older art or small items this is a great opportunity to get them off of your hands and into appreciative new ones. Given time and budget constraints, we intend to keep presentation even simpler than usual, but we have a large yard that creates plenty of options.

If you or anyone you know is interested in showing, please drop us a line. If anyone has a larger household item or two that they'd like to try and sell, that can most likely also be arranged.

Brady Commons Craft Studio Gallery

Opening Reception

Saturday, July 7th
4:00PM

free juice and cookies

Didn't we always say that we were dedicated to bringing you art when, where and however possible? Well, this time we cleaned the dirt out from under our nails and got presentable enough to exhibit at the Craft Studio Gallery! Come see the show at 203 Brady Commons, University of Missouri, Columbia. For those who are unfamiliar with the U, Brady Commons is on the corner of Hitt and Rollins. The Craft Studio, which is supported by the Missouri Students Association and community membership, is a long time friend of Garage Art. It's where the dirt under some of our nails came from. It's on the second floor. 203. Can't miss it.

We have some new artists in this show, as well as some returning favorites. Here's a list, in no particular order:

Meg Rivers, Fadra Hepner, Molly Fiegel, Phillip Cortez Temple, Kelsey Hammond, Fergus Moore, Corey Schlegel, Dominique Andre Venzant, Stephanie Kleyman, Andrew Dolan, Chris Crillo, Felicia Leach, Emma Ginsberg, Pat Ragan, Jessica McElhattan, Barbara Ramsbottom, Elizabeth Parris, Alison Hunter, Grant Gardner, Sarah Brunjes

As always, you can contact us at info@garage-art.org

For more information on the Craft Studio, call 573 882-2889

Garage Art Pre-Season Event at the Blue Note this Saturday!

Garage Art is happy to unofficially kick off the 2007 season at the Blue Note, Saturday, April 28.  The persistent winter has kept us from planning this year’s big events, but we thought we’d ease into spring with a small showcase of work by faces both new and familiar.

We’ll be featuring live screen printing by Felicia Leach, paintings by Barbara Ramsbottom, jewelry from Katie Harben, and more. All artcraft will be for sale on the cheap, and the artists will be on hand to remind you why you’re getting such a deal.

This night is in conjunction with local superstars Bockman‘s CD release party, and if that weren’t enough, there will also be sets from the Doxies, Stingrays, & Shirrelle C. Lime and the Lemons.

Garage Art will be upstairs by the bathrooms (no Duchamp jokes please) all night, so get an earful & then come up & get an eyeful. Music starts at 9pm, tickets are $6 at the door. You can visit the Blue Note’s website for more info.

Garage Art presents “Everyday Art” - Saturday, July 29th

You ever have those moments where you think you've taken care of everything you're supposed to, yet there's still this icky little sensation in the back of your head that you're forgetting something important?

That happens to us every day.

But when it comes to "Everyday Art'—this month's Garage Art event—we think we just about have our act together, & this is what it looks like:

Garage Art presents "Everyday Art"
Saturday, July 29th

  • Venue 1: 1413 Hinkson | 6:30pm - 7:30pm
  • Venue 2: 708 West Blvd N | 8:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Venue 3: 210 Hirth | 9:30pm and later

The media we're emphasizing this month are familiar, but the talent involved is anything but commonplace. Be it pottery, photography, clothing or dirt, we know you'll recognize the textures and materials at the three venues, but we hope you'll also have a chance to meet the incredible artists shaping this substance.

The first venue will focus on ceramics and things beyond ceramics. We're thrilled to host our first earthworks, by Eric Petersen, as well as a collaborative piece by Tyler Woodcock & Mandy Salov, built using "cement and candy" (we're as curious as you). We'll also have MU Fine Arts stalwart and wood kiln vigilante Fergus Moore throwing clay live onsite along with Fadra Hepner.

You can take off your 3-D glasses at the West Blvd N stop, which features a range of photography and graphic design, including stuff from Mike Garrett, Samantha Burke, and portraits from Ben Harben's Bubblegum Society series. Xiao Tse, whose photgraphs will be spread throughout this month's homes, will play us out from venue two with a live set of progressive house. But before you go, make sure to check out the jewelry collections by Melanie Lising and Faydra Hardison. You might even want to buy something, cuz the accessories will go nicely with the…

Fashion rules Venue #3, held at 210 Hirth. Whether it's the brilliantly recycled handbags of host Morgan Inez Smith or the dresses and other clothing provided by Emily Heymeyer and Ellen Birch, the art at this venue is guaranteed to surround you, as the Garage Art guests become canvases themselves. We won't leave the walls blank though—also featured at venue three are illustrations by Melissa Bauer, tattoo flash from ink artist William Kasper, and posters by Expert Work (you've seen this stuff around town, & I bet you loved it). There'll also be quilting & scrapbooking, a slew of old 45s being played by resident phonophile Taylor Bacon, and live screen printing by Felicia Leach. Bring an old T-shirt and let her make it new!

To really appreciate everyone and everything that's going on this month of course, you'll simply have to show up. There'll be food & drink at all the venues, so you can feed your body and your soul. Garage Art events remain forever free, but we're running on fumes, so please consider dropping a few bucks in our donation jar (the real one or the virtual one) or purchasing your favorite piece from one of the artists who are always on hand and generally pretty nice.
